I’m trying to shift into a new practice of getting up a little earlier in the morning to have more quiet time for meditation and journaling before the world gets loud.
And to coffee myself. (Yes, I feel that coffee may be used as a verb when necessary.)
While I tend to get a creative jolt around 9:30 in the evening, it’s often 2:30 in the morning (or later) before I find myself settling down to sleep. And I can feel that my body is beginning to clap back at me with, “Hey, girl… you keep doing this to me? I’m gonna’ show you what I can do.” And she isn’t playing.
This morning, I woke up earlier, stretched, washed my face to get rid of those crusty eye-thingies, and made my way to the water kettle. There’s something about making a cup of drip coffee that’s almost meditative – the smell of freshly-ground organic Guatemalan, coupled with the bubbling of the kettle and the “ting” of the spoon against bone china is my call to get quiet and focus.
I have this pack of sweet little decorative napkins with flowers and swallows that are flying among the clouds. The colors are so calming. There’s even a tiny little bee, preparing to land on a fat purple clover. Today, I decided it was time to stop admiring them in the packaging and actually use them.
Sitting at the dining table in the small breakfast area next to my desk, I began writing in my journal. “August 21…”
and then I decided to make a little reel to post on my FTR Facebook page. The caption said:
“I’m doing my best to get in the habit of morning journal writing, assisted by a cup of good coffee in my favorite mug. My mind goes into the coulds, though, sometimes… I suppose that’s okay.”
When I looked back at what I had typed, I realized I had transposed the word, “clouds”, into the word, “COULDS”. Hmmm…
Actually, that might have been exactly what I was supposed to write – sometimes my mind does fly into the “coulds”, thinking of all the options for things to do with the day… with tomorrow… with the rest of my life.
Isn’t it funny how sometimes the Universe takes hold of your pen and does the writing for you?
